Black Belt Promotion

For several months, a group of students from Cayuga Lake Seido have been working hard to prepare for their black belt test at Honbu. The month of March was a busy one, as each had the opportunity to travel to New York City several times to complete portions of their exam. Through it all, they carried the enthusiasm and energy of the whole dojo, and showed true bushido (non-quitting) spirit in the face of every challenge. Congratulations to everyone!

Kagami Biraki 2012

Each year, the World Seido Karate Headquarters hosts Kagami Biraki, a vigorous workout and time of togetherness to help celebrate the Japanese New Year. This year nearly 300 karateka attended, including a group of 11 of us from Cayuga Lake Seido. Here are some reflections on the day…

CLSK at Kagami Biraki 2012

We were packed in like sardines with a sea of black belts ahead of me. Fellowship formed through sweat and endurance, as we punched 1000 times, followed by numerous sets of 100 push-ups and sit-ups. Kaicho then presented an inspiring lecture, reminding us to cherish each moment we are alive…. and to stand strong with any adversity in our path and just do our best. A good and thoughtful time was had by all!

It was awesome to see so many people doing karate together. My favorite part was the heel kicks because it was fun to see everyone managing the kicks in such a small place.

It was an amazing experience sharing the floor with so many Seido Karatekas. I enjoyed the intensity of the work out and the good spirit of all participants. Moreover starting the new year with a training at Honbu and a lecture from Kaicho gives the idea of beginning a new dimension.

Punch and Kick-a-Thon a Huge Success!

Thanks to the support and fundraising efforts of 46 CLSK students,the 2012 Punch and Kick-a-Thon was a tremendous success!

Together we completed 1000 kicks and 1000 punches, while raising $2365.40 for the Cancer Resource Center of the Finger Lakes. Bob Riter, Executive Director of CRCFL, was present to accept our donation.

CLSK Punch- and Kick-a-Thon

The third annual CLSK Punch- and Kick-a-Thon fundraiser will be held on Thursday, January 12th, from 6:00-8:00pm at the Lansing Elementary School gymnasium. Participants will complete 1000 punches and 1000 kicks while helping to raise money for the Cancer Resource Center of the Finger Lakes. Kagami Biraki

To celebrate each new year, many martial arts schools hold a celebration called Kagami Biraki. This year, Honbu is hosting Kagami Biraki on Sunday, January 15th, and several students from Cayuga Lake Seido Karate will be attending. We’ll write more about the day once we return. CLSK Holiday Party

I love the holiday party because it is a time for everone to get together and just have a good time. There are great activities such as the ninjabread man decorating contest and the raffle. All sorts of delicous food brought in by everyone adds to the joyful atmosphere of the party. It’s a nice time to be with your friends and just have FUN!
